Thought I might be able to post this and help someone. Maybe keep them from making the same mistake that I did. From time to time I get weird ideas of working from home. I know a woman in Kansas that does this but haven't talked to her in a year. This time around I found an ad in Facebook and went with it. The ad could be anywhere but Zuck is taking on lots of new ones now.

Oh, yes, working from home. I clicked it and went through a lengthy sign up. Then my phone started ringing. As of yesterday I get 20 or 30 extra junk e-mails a day. Every Joe Namath wannabe and their brother thinks I don't have the Medicare that I deserve. They don't understand why I won't listen and just "decide" to go with their company because "you do not get the new benefits automatically." People in other states think I could just show up and interview for a job. Working from home also appears to involve FedEx drivers. I'm so busy hanging up and deleting that it is not funny. I think one ad came from California and I live in Missouri.

I'm a part time delivery driver that would not mind working from home. After this experience I want to tell everyone to beware. 🙂

My experience with FB has led me to believe that most of their job postings and half of their sales promotions are "fronts" to gather personal information for sales databases. I rather expected that, but was surprised that a number of job listings on LinkedIn are the same. A number of jobs I applied for on company websites also used my job application information to add me to their sales lists.

What I've done is create email addresses, telephone numbers, and FB accounts that I use solely for job searches, so my personal information stays private and, if they ever get over-whelmed with junk, I can just delete them. I don't know if it's worth your time to do that or not, but I've found it a lot less frustrating.

I may not do all of this but I think you are exactly correct. The link I followed could also have been on many other sites. I don't mind you having my general info but I certainly get angry when being exploited.

@DenoPenno Yes, they should at least be asking to use your information, and not in fine print somewhere that's hard to find - and certainly not just because you applied to a job posting.

I did that too before I retired, I still use it for questionable sites as well as political sites. They stay full, since the address is sold over and over again.

@glennlab I have one for those, too, and for one-off shopping sites. I try to keep my main email addy pure so I don't get pissed off every morning when I open my mail. 😀

@Lauren I should have set up a separate one for politics too. Every two years i have to go through and unsub to a ton of lists. With the dems it works, repubs have no honor.

@glennlab The repubs have been calling me like crazy this year! It's not even fun to vent on them anymore. I just want them to go away!

@Lauren I get several emails everyday from the repubs, I understand the lack of fun in venting, since they just add you to more email or phone lists.
