My house is under the flight pass of helicopters and military flying circus machines making their way to Fort Drum.. About once a month, a very loud helicopter goes overhead. I cannot see it in winter ( it is dark) but it is a very large helicopter with a deep throbbing sound. It just went overhead.
At this point in world affairs, I get cranky. I feel like I should not have to go through this twice in my life. My thoughts are with all the people experiencing this in real-time.

The Viet Cong attached pieces of wire, strung with nuts and bolts, to crossbow arrows, and fired them into the rotor wash of American helicopters passing overhead, causing their motors to stall. Helicopters lost in this fashion were blamed on "mechanical malfunction".

One the one hand, thank goodness they are there. I don't envy them their jobs. I've been there, I'm a veteran. OTOH, yes, it's hard to have a peaceful coexistence, they do make a great deal of noise.

HippieChick: It is my reaction to the sound that freaks me out. As a child, I lived in the camp for displaced persons and we had actual British aircraft fly overhead and sirens warning us. My body reacts like I am still four years old and scared to death. The British Occupation Force soldiers were very nice to us kids, but the stories told to us by the old men in the camp did not help.
