Is there anyone else who hates the Christmas Season? Don't get me wrong. Christmas itself is fine. Spending time with family, and whatnot. It's not even the grotesque commercialization that bothers me about the season. It's the music. I. HATE. THE. MUSIC!!!

Every store I go in has crappy Christmas jingles running 24-7 that are just covers of covers of covers of covers. Bands have remade the Christmas jingles so many times that nobody even knows who originally wrote the song. Jingle Bells, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, all those songs.

Although any song by Trans-Siberian Orchestra is good. I guess having worked in a supermarket as a cashier for 7 or 8 Christmases (7 or 8 years of listening to straight Christmas music for a month and a half out of every year) has left me jaded to the so-called beauty of the Christmas Season.

Et tu?

I hate most of the music. Some of it has sentimental value from when I was younger, but mostly it's just annoying. It's next to impossible to escape unless one is sitting at home with no television and no radio. Fortunately, I don't use either very much.

Christmas lights annoy me. Christmas advertising annoys me. I do my best to avoid Christmas altogether. Some of my very religious family try to force it upon me, but I usually manage to escape. Their lack of respect for my wishes annoys me.

Everyone knows I do not give gifts at Christmas. Some forget that I give gifts the rest of the year, even when others don't, and say I am selfish for not engaging in gift-giving for Christmas. That annoys me.

I don't get annoyed very often, despite how this message may read. It's the way Christmas tends to be forced on people that sets me off. Other atheists I know give up and join the festivities of this ridiculous, overcommercialized, religious holiday.

I am not one of them. Call me Scrooge if you like. You will not find a tree in my home.

The only time I remember enjoying Christmas music and decorations was when I was in China. It wasn't very common and was always so unexpected and a bit bizarre. I hate Christmas music, I hate Christmas traffic. Two nights ago I spent 1-1/2 hours getting out of a mall parking lot.

Some of the lights are pretty.

The overly sentimental music… the flashy, cartoon-ish decorations… the blinking colored lights… it's like the holiday vomited gaudiness all over December.

Sometimes being hard of hearing isn't the worse thing in the world.

SAME! And I agree with another poster or two - if it was for a week, fine, but it starts the day after freakin' Halloween. And the overcommercialization bothers me insomuch as I cannot go shopping for normal stuff without fighting ridiculous traffic and crazy ass lines everywhere. I just want a pair of boots, people!!!

And omigod how people react when they find out you don't like Christmas. It's like you kicked a puppy.

I enjoy Christmas with my family, hanging out, overeating, giving small gifts. If I can't get it from Amazon, you're probably shit outta luck. 😀

Ok...

I can't say I hate it, but I'm definitely glad when it's all over. There's this overwhelming frenzy that seems to invade the whole town, and it's not necessarily pleasant. Of course this area becomes inundated with snowbirds also, which only adds to the madness. Most stores become unapproachable, and of course there IS that damn music.

I love music. I even love some of the holiday related songs - but in moderation. And when I choose to listen to them ! yikes...

It seems most major holidays now barely have any original purpose left to them. Most everything is about how much $ is generated, and which ones are most popular.

Time for me to lay low, keep close to home, hang out with a couple like minded folks, or get lost in wilderness somewhere. Fortunately, there's lots of that around ! Happy F-in holidays !

I hate the music too. Albeit, this year, my store hasn't been sent the Christmas music CD yet. Good! I have headphones on in stores I go into. Wal-Mart included.

Commercialism truely sucks.
