The decision is now in his hands.
Late yesterday afternoon, after another good day of "touring" around by bus, stopping for Counter Lunch at a Hotel, etc, etc, ( no alcohol consumed though) plus a long and most enlightening chat with his NOW and most definitely no longer "Lady Friend" Liz, I learned quite a few things regarding the Evangelidiot and Liz learned that since she has written and detailed records of his very clandestine so-called business activities as a fully Qualified Botanist, Gardening Expert, Tree-Surgeon, etc, etc, ad infinitum, are 100% FAKE and that, as I always suspected and thought anyway, he would NOT know wood-worm from a worm living in the ground in the woods.
So, we had our chat, went our own ways I caught the next bus and THOUGHT that I had managed to get home without the naighbourhood pest knowing it.
Wrong, wrong, wrong VERY wrong, no sooner had I shut the front door, gone into my bedroom and changed my clothes than there is a knocking at my front door with a voice saying very plaintively, " I'm wondering when you will be coming to see what you can do with my wood-heater, I have $50 in cash ready and here with me now and more at home."
To cut the saga short, who can resist $50 of easy money, so I went I looked I pondered and thought then I stated MY terms,

  1. HE must remove the wood-heater from where it is situated and deliver it to my work-space WITHIN the next 48 hours, plus pay a deposit fee of $50 upon doing so,
  2. I will supply him with a list of materials and tools that will be required and they must best of the very best quality and, with the specifically specified tools HE must lease them, not purchase them in his name only and cover the Rental costs himself,
  3. When work starts on repairing his wood-heater and as from the time he delivers the materials as listed and the required tools HE must remain away from my home, away from myself completely and totally UNTIL summoned by me to a) receive and pay, in full, the Account for Services rendered, etc, etc, that I shall present to him, PLUS, upon his sworn oath, ensure that PRIOR to my handing over his repaired wood-heater he has and can PROVE that he has made complete financial recompense to ALL persons who he has " employed" in "Horticultural" Venture to the fullest amounts owed, in cash and show signed receipts as evidence,
  4. the heater WILL have the "fire-bricks" replaced in it at his expense and shall be fittedso as they cannot be removed WITHOUT totally destroying the heater, finally,
  5. ALL outstanding monies and Accounts MUST be paid in FULL and documentary evidence to prove so MUST be available and viewed BEFORE the repaired wood-heater will be handed over.
then I informed him that he has 24 hours to make his decision and inform me as to it, should it a Yes, then he will have a further 24 hours to remove and deliver the heater to my work area, if it be No, then should he later decide to request my services again the price will go up as will the conditions of the contract as well.
At a guess I would say that he first TRIED to get some extra money out of his Mommy last evening before spending, I sincerely hope, the somewhat cold night pacing the floor trying to come to a decision.
Btw, should he opt for going to a Professional he will discover that it will cost him a whole lot more anyway.

I'd be washing my hands of that idiot, & tell him to go beg elsewhere. I'd have better things to do than help him, even if he were on fire.

If you are going to do this and he agrees to your terms, then make sure you have it all in a contract he has to sign and date. Protect yourself, I don't trust him.
It may be wise to think about the potential accusations and complaints he may have of your work. Is the future aggravation worth the extra money you could make? Think about it long and hard. 🙂

Already done and just waiting for him to decide and sign after the day of refusals he says he got from the other Metalworking Shops and his NO longer Friends as well today.

@Triphid He certainly makes an art form of pissing people off.

@anglophone Yes and if it were an Olympic Sport I'd estimate he would easily be either world Champion or in 2nd. place behind Putin.

Hey mister, you are going to a lot of effort and selling your services cheap.

Not really, will actually making a nice profit since I need some nice new, shiny steel plate for a job for myself.
The repair plating for his, IF he accepts the deal and the costings is all ready here and been here for over 4 years, just a bit too narrow for the job I need it for but ideal for his.
