Ironically, the second amendment provides the means for enacting gun regulation when the people want it but the government does not.

It does no such thing. What it does do is establish that in order to maintain the security of a free state a well regulated militia is pretty much a necessity, and the second part clearly states that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. On that last part there, notice how it said nothing about regulating the rights of the citizens to bear arms, but it did say shall not be infringed. Common sense should dictate that the first part of the 2A was not referring to only regulated militias having the right to bear arms. Also, for what purpose do you suppose the Founder's had in mind when they drafted the 2A? They knew full well that Governments could become corrupt over time and turn on the people they are supposed to be serving, so it makes no bit of rational or logical sense that they knowing such would then make a law suggesting only Government regulated militias can possess all the weapons. Your whole argument on that is contradicting.

From the above linked to source:
During the Revolutionary War era, “militia” referred to groups of men who banded together to protect their communities, towns, colonies and eventually states, once the United States declared its independence from Great Britain in 1776.

Many people in America at the time believed governments used soldiers to oppress the people, and thought the federal government should only be allowed to raise armies (with full-time, paid soldiers) when facing foreign adversaries. For all other purposes, they believed, it should turn to part-time militias, or ordinary civilians using their own weapons.

Now... I have spent many years thinking about this topic, and I have now been on both sides of that debate, having started out as a rabid gun control activist the likes of which you couldn't begin to fathom, I am saying what I'm saying for a good reason. I am not one to be dictated to by emotions (referring to my own) and pay absolutely no reasonable regards to anyone else who lets their emotions run wild as soon as the next horror presents itself in society, as no truly logical or reasonable person should. Once unbridled emotions take hold, logic and reasoning go out the window.

Back in January 2021 I was a mute witness to the madness over emotions running high over a perceived "election steal" which was hardly the truth, and what I saw to come shortly afterwards appalled me to no end. Now, I am witness to emotions dictating to and manipulating those on the other political side regarding recent shooting sprees, and I'm equally appalled at what I'm witnessing, people who in reality are seething with hatred and contempt for the perceived opposition just like those who went wild back in January 2021. You really should hear/see some of the things said to me on the matter by those who profess to be fair and tolerant progressive individuals, it's anything but tolerant.

Even in supplying solid evidence to the contrary of the pro gun control arguing point(s), I'm sure said evidence will not change many minds, afterall them emotions... That's part of the reason why we have the troubles we do in society, both political extremes are constantly at each other's throats, small wonder why nothing improves. I don't have the words to describe how I feel on that, with all the bullying and heckling and dehumanizing that I've observed during my time on this site from both extremes, I'm ashamed to be human, it's totally embarrassing. It should go without saying that my proposed solution to the related problem, which would NOT include the addition of more guns, is automatically dismissed by the gun control authoritarians without so much as even taking a moment to consider what I'd have to share on the matter. We are all headed for some truly dark times in the US, and it's not the guns' fault, bad things continue to occur in society due to the tribalist nature of human beings, humans directly are to blame. I've said my piece, and can say no more. At this point, what will be will be it seems.

It is not the government, per se, but the Republican Party, which has sold out its morality and libertarians. If we had enough Democrats in office, we could get done what heeds to be done.
