@Pralina1, @anglophone What would be much more valuable to you is if you looked at the USGov website. If you did you would find that approxmately 1,000,000 people immigrated to the US in 2019 (last year figures were available) from "safe" countries such as England, Canada, France, etc.

You should have looked at that site before mouthing off about what you actually did NOT know about immigration. I'm not surprised you just shot off your mouth because it is obvious you are an emotional wreck.

It is heartbreaking to watch a newborn go through withdrawals.

@Betty I don’t do babies as far as my career goes , although I am certified to deliver them / emergency . But as a rule , I avoid anything w babies / NICU . However , up to 2020, I , and few other ED cats , if lunch break or slow night , we used to go up to NICU and rock these withdrawal babies for half hr or so .
Yeah , they have mechanical rockers etc , but nothing replaces skin warmth and talking to them .
My place of employment is a trauma level 1 in the hood , where drugs and shootings is the norm daily . These babies are always present at NICU . Their crying is constant and shooting them is very hard . I don’t know how the NICU nurses do it . These babies are state custody 99% of the time from what I was told . Saddest way to spend lunch , but biggest reality check too

@Pralina1 You are a caring and strong person. The one time I saw a baby in such distress, I wanted to cry and hit someone at the same time.

I thought at the time that kids in their last year of high school should all have to spend just an hour soothing one of these babies. They would have to have a heart of stone not to feel for them. Wouldn't that be a wake up call for some?

@Betty that’s a great thought and unfortunately not permitted . For over 25 yrs now . That’s exactly how I became a nurse . I was a volunteer back in Italy and Greece the summers in my 20s , while in art college . Well . Back then , volunteers where able to touch patients . Regulations changed . Fears of law suits and liability . Money talks , humanity walks away .
Nobody can enter the babies wards on these days as well . Fear of elopement / code pink , when people attempt to walk away w babies . And they do

I have asked maybe a dozen women why women have more than one child. Only one, a Catholic in her seventies, gave me an answer I understood, “Because we forget.”

@yvilletom It's true. Once the baby is born the pain is forgotten. It only get brought up again with the child misbehaves. lol
