The Civil war was won by the South, they lost on paper but have kept their way of living. Next time we have a war we have to make sure things change. That is if the good guys win.

"their part of town".......that illuminates the problem that existed then and continues on today. The holier than thou folks have always believed that a town should be divided up - along racial...ethnic... religious...whatever - lines and everyone needed to stay in "their" part of town. Tribalism is getting worse every year that goes by and it's not hard to see where this is all headed. The desire for "Ethnic cleansing" - seems to be hard wired into human DNA - unfortunately. And our current 24/7 news cycle is probably doing more harm than good.
And you're right - we're all for pleasant in this country....above all else.

Just about everything these days is screwed-up something fierce, and each political extreme only cares about their own agendas and piss on the other guy's views. Makes me ashamed at times to even be human, knowing how my species fights among each other like that. No surprises on the public education system part, I myself a few decades back was stuck in an absolutely dysfunctional public school district, sure glad I'm long gone out of there as I'm sure things have only gotten worse since my school days. Politics dominate our world.
