Couldn't decide whether to post this to the 'Politics' or 'Religion' category, so it's in the 'General'. Paul Ryan got the House Chaplain to resign, effective April 15. He said it was because Father Conroy wasn't complying with requests, or offering adequate counsel, and he (Ryan) had received complaints from House members.
While I'm fine with the House being without a "spiritual leader", I'm completely suspicious of Ryan's motives. I wouldn't trust that Eddie Munster-looking piece of shit to wheel the garbage cans to the curb the night before Trash Day.

I guess he was the wrong type of christian.

Aren't they all?

I have said this in the past, I will say it again quoting that rap song...... "Gotta keep'em separated"

Don't quite get the need for a chaplain since there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. But I bet they want someone more evangelical....ugh

Church/religion is everywhere, even on the military so don't surprise me they had one, for the appearances I guess.

It was done for political reasons. Ryan figured he was on the way out anyway, so there would be no repercussions in firing the guy.

As NPR's reporting on Ryan's impending departure pointed out, anyone can be Speaker, it doesn't have to be a member of the House. With his getting rid of the chaplain, it occurs to me that the right-wingers might try to install an Evangelical pastor as Speaker. Another pastor in the House wouldn't be tolerated?

Annnd there ya go! Conroy is a jesuit. The evangelicals don't cotton to the jesuits that well. Especially now that the current RC Pope is a jesuit. They don't like it at all.

@KKGator I didn't even know any of that. Damn.

Maybe it's time to completely eliminate the Chaplain positions in government.

I'm down with that.

They do have function and use in the military, at times helping out with troubled dependents when servicemen are deployed.

IMO it is unconstitutional to have a Chaplain. This promotes religion. @KKGator

I am a Viet Nam veteran. When we were scheduled to go on an operation I always heard men talk about how if they were killed they expected to go to Heaven. Some visited the Chaplain. IMO the Chaplains are part of the establishment to convince men to sacrifice their lives for the political system with the worthless promise they can go to Heaven. People of all religions need to know that there is no afterlife...when you die it is game over. @GipsyOfNewSpain

@nicknotes I absolutely agree.

@nicknotes I don't know what will happen to you or me at time of death but as I expressed chaplains do not only interact with servicemen going into battle. Sometime is the dependant going to see them because she/him ran out of money and they have list of who can help her/him.

It is about time you caught on! It has been obvious to me for over a year that the Munster family is attempting to establish a dictatorship. The signs are there if you will only look for them. First, who actually occupies the White House? The facts all point to Herman Munster. The orange makeup? It is to cover up his green complexion. The outlandish swirling pelt-like hairdo? To cover up the tall, square forehead;

Need any more evidence?

The Munsters in addition to having installed Herman in the White House, have already secured three key positions. Photographic evidence is attached.

You threw Uncle Fester Addams in there, for Sanders. LOL

@KKGator Damn! Impossible to slip anything by you. The Addams and Munsters are in this together.

@PappyOnWings They were both much better families than these asshats.

I agree with your assessment of Paul Ryan.
I'm also fine with the House not having 'spiritual leader'. in fact, I'm against it altogether.

Here's what I'd like to know though. Is there equal access to secular counseling?
Does the 'pastor' work across not only all denominations of Christianity, but all other religions as well?

I honestly don't know. However, knowing the general make-up of Congress, I'm willing to bet that his "counsel" was probably most available to the christians. I sincerely doubt many of the other denominations represented ever sought him out.

@KKGator Yeah, he probably didn't do much, but I wonder what the 'real' reason
was for him to get on Ryan's radar

@Paul628 I wonder as well. Maybe he'll write a book.

Well... they were all fighting over the aids.

I'm sure the chaplain was a better person than Ryan.

He was the chaplains little buddy...
