For some reason I had to look up the history of the PPP loan program. It was initiated by the Trump administration and all but one House member voted for it the first time. I did not find the Senate vote for the initial program but I'm pretty sure everyone voted for it.

The Mar 2021 House PPP extension included provisions to require 75% of the loans be spent on salaries and also included special provisions for very small businesses and restaurants. President Biden pushed for this change to the PPP. Many Senate Republicans and several House Republicans objected to that part of the extension and it was removed by amendment.

In every instance all of the Congress members who are screaming so much about the partial college loan forgiveness gladly voted for the PPP including the amendment to exclude extra help for restaurants and other very small businesses plus the requirement that 75% be spent on salaries.

So many of them were profiting from it, of course they didn’t want to make changes!
