These are strange days indeed. Every day brings something new that I thought would have been a thing of the past by now..... I genuinely feel we are in the middle of a huge shift... Thoughts anyone?

Interesting that the comments were written back in April, now we're in June and things seem as if they are spiralling even more out of control. What with the Tory's ideological destruction of the NHS, the benefits system and a lemming like headlong rush to Brexit and the alienation of our European partners, what with the rise of the Alt Right not just in the UK but throughout Europe & America. Oh yes and don't forget, whilst the press filled their pages with the Royal Wedding the Government slipped through legislation overriding a local councils opposition to fracking. And don't get me started on the actions of Scarborough Council! But let's not panic, we have the latest Coronation Street capers and the World Cup to distract us, bread, circuses and football!

Bread and circuses indeed! You only have to see what is also going on over The Pond to understand how perfectly that is being exercised..... I despair sometimes. I see from your picture that you sing.... Me too! Although I haven't been on stage for almost a year now. What kind of music do you generally play? 🙂

@LouLou_62 Ah the pictures misleading. I'm actually a performance poet I have been for more years than I care to remember. I usually do bits and pieces around the open mics and supporting bands around Scarbrough & York. I also write fantasy novels & my photographic prints.

@aakschipper Oh that's cool! I have a couple of friends back in Southend who are performance poets 🙂 And an artist and writer too? Multi talented then! I think generally, the more creative a person is, the more they are affected by the world around them......

@LouLou_62 I have a little gallery down here in sunny scarborough on sea where I ply my wares. Your right about the effects of the world I have written about that and politicians for more years than I care to think about. In my time I've marched in support of CND - protested about vietnam - worked with RAR - and now am involved with the "we shall overcome" movement - we do what we can.

@aakschipper Indeed we do.... Often feels like we're swimming against the tide though..... I've been involved in political activism on and off for years now. But I'm back in my home town for the foreseeable future and ready to rock and roll again! 🙂

Yes, a shift towards a mass extinction brought on by our huge population and greed.

I thought we were on the right track for a major antiwar paradigm shift in the sixties but as the lyrics go " All our heroes are outlined in chalk" by a great little known trio, The Devil Makes Three, it seems as if culturally we are heading into right wing hyper capitalism.

In other words, progressives are being marginalized if not eliminated.

I think progressives are making inroads actually, so take heart 🙂 Look at the gains the Justice Democrats et al are making in the US.... It's a tough fight I grant you, but people are ready..... 🙂

@LouLou_62 There are advances on both sides which can only mean one thing, they will crash hard into each other.

Maybe it's the "end times" again. Would anyone care to make a wager?

LOL! I'm so old I've long learned that things go in cycles. Women's dress hems go up and down, popular hair styles change, people protest new wars, new chemical poisons in the environment are revealed, etc.

But if you mean is there a worldwide shift in public perceptions for the better, I don't know.

I think there is; but it's fraught with danger. Our children's generation have been brought up with a sense of global connection that we never experienced. And they are actually connected via social media in an unprecedented way! They will shape our future, make no mistake, And they all want the humans on this planet to live together equally and in harmony for the most part. All my hopes are in this generation and I am excited 🙂

I get this amazing sense of dejavu times a thousand.
So many things I was working on 1/2 my life ago are either becoming very mainstream, or are at least being considered. It gets frustrating to be invited to a conference to consider a "new" idea or approach when you worked with the originators way back.

Oh my goodness yes! I was just saying something similar a little while ago... That we worked really hard for inclusion and acceptance and social justice. But all the things my kids were brought up to take for granted as normal, are now things we have to fight for again!! Groundhog Day! 😟

@LouLou_62 Yep, I learnt about climate change at school in the 70s, all about cfcs, co2, methane and all, we had the rio Earth Summit, The Brundland Commission and after these many years, some of the issues are finally in the news. Of course it is way past the turning point now. It is like being in a bus heading towards the cliff, no chance of stopping in time, all you can do is slow it a bit and live a few moments longer.
