UPDATE! There is a leak in the bedroom ceiling. I poked a hole in it to relieve the pressure and have a big bucket in place.

I just tried to see where exactly Melborne is in Florida, but the city page just shows a satelite photo of hurricane Ian over Cuba... real helpful. (idiots).

No doubt faulty flashing around chimney, skylight, valley, or other "fold" or penetration...do Not assume the leak comes from where it shows up inside, water can & does flow atop the rafters, sometimes Many feet away.

I got on a ladder and took a look. I have duct tape, fasteners, a couple of tarps and help later today.

Hopefully you're insured. Find a better contractor this time.

Roofers will be showing up from all over the country. Half of those roofs will fail inspection.

In Floriduh?! I have done a lot of the work on my house for good reasons!

Right. Drain it.
Is this rain from the Ian storm ?

It's from the storm and idiot roofers, they were here just last year and all new roof. I am beyond pissed off.

@MizJ How awful! I hope they get to you and repair the problem. If not, I hope you know a good lawyer!

@Organist1 I bought a couple of tarps a couple of months ago. Right now it's just about doing what I can. Thanks

@MizJ wow, they did it last year and it still leaks? They should cover that. I think my roof job was guaranteed for 3 years, and that was short.

@AlbertSchepis First priority is getting the tarps up there. I may just call my lawyer next week.

Eesh, yeah that's a problem that keeps on giving. I had the same; and I poked holes too. They keep appearing and it puddles and water rots where you can't see it until the ceiling falls down. I had to get my roof fixed ($6,000 I think it was) but it didn't cover the ceiling. I thought I could do that myself... wrong. I did some of it but that was ten years ago and I never got around to finishing it. I'm saving it and some other things for last, and if I have any way to pay, I'll have someone else do it. I hate that. I just had a guy do a proposal to finish my house to sell it... $18,000... for starters. F that. Some things were like a joke or something... $218 to screw on a face plate for an outlet... stuff like that. Be forewarned about these guys. Looking at the damage from Ian though... Millions destroyed... wow.

I just took 20 sq feet out in trash bags. Have buckets in place.

@MizJ Sorry to hear that. Been there. Better to get it out though before it starts to get moldy. Youtube has lots of DIY videos for home repairs. I just don't know how the south-eastern states deal with the repeated yearly storm damage. I heard yesterday that insurance companies are starting to go belly up too. Actually the north-west gets a lot of just constant rain. I had a friend who lived in Seattle who, when I visited them, it was the only two weeks out of the year it didn't rain. They said I was good luck and to keep on visiting.

@AlbertSchepis I have mold killer and have already gotten some of the drywall and insulation out.

@MizJ And if you're the kind of self-reliant person you seem to be, this is a tough repair job to do yourself. I had to devise a way to hold the drywall up while I fastened it... not easy, but that was after I got the roof fixed, which you have to do first, obviously. I also have popcorn, and the kind I got at the store isn't the same as the stuff they used 40 years ago, so the entire ceiling may need to be redone. Good luck.

@AlbertSchepis I have a friend with a drywall lift. Woo hoo. Now I just have to find the drywall and mud. We are going to need an awful lot of building supplies in this state.

@MizJ Lucky... I don't even know what that is (but I googled it). I assume you got the roof fixed? Did the guys who did it last year guarantee their work? You know the leak may be hard to find, because it can travel once it gets through. I found that out the hard way.

@AlbertSchepis I know where the leak is, the main part if not the whole o problem, I just looked for the daylight.
