In some cases, the sign reflects an admirable sentiment.
Christmas traditionally was about sharing, celebrating, and promoting the value of peace.
But capitalism has Is corrupted this with consumption.
Your suggested response could be interpreted as a dismissive intellectual elitism. A more effective response would be,
"Yes, We need to go back to the Peace, Justice and Tolerance that Jesus talked about."
I do not see anything wrong with killing a tree for jesus. Had to get the cross from somewhere. left over tree for the holiday.
Christmas trees are indeed a pagan tradition and one that is expressly forbidden by the Holly Babble
Jeremiah 10:1-5
"Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel. Do not learn the way of the Gentiles; do not ... For the customs of the peoples are futile; for one cuts a tree from the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They decorate it with silver and gold; they fasten it with nails and hammers so that it will not topple.
Jeremiah was well before christ, so christmas had not yet been invented.
@Petter
I'm going to be kind and assume you are making a joke
Absolutely correct. Long before christianity, the period around the solstice was celebrated by assorted belief systems. Also, the periods 14 days before and 14 days after the solstice, since these marked the earliest sunset and latest sunrise, respectively. Hence, the immaculate conception (6th December) and 3 wise men bearing gifts on Epiphany (5th January)
Also, since the Roman census was during springtime, Jesus would have been born around Easter. Imagine the confusion amongst Christians if they had to celebrate his birth and death simultaneously!
