I looked over my four year old bearded iris beds today. Some didn't fare well but others thrived! After bloom season is over these will be moved to individual beds per variety. The started beds hold several varieties but it does look like I will have a few varieties to offer for sale this year! YEAH!!!!

I have a few irises that are over 40 years old. Funny how they've survived.

I had over 200 at one point but my goats found them tasty so I moved them to another farm and started my beds over.

@misstuffy We used to have goats until they got on the roof of my grandfather's new Chrysler!

@farmboy2017 my goats are pretty much my only source of income atm since I developed an allergy to the chemicals at work. I have close to 70 but had over 135 at one time. As my iris beds are replaced and start producing I will reduce my goat numbers.

Yeah!!!

I just ordered 40 new varieties to plant. Everything from broken color, rebloomers, luminatas, bicolors, space age and so on. My goal is to someday offer 500 varieties, from BB to TB and everything in between. I bought some fertilizer yesterday and need to get some bone meal in.

@misstuffy what kind of beds and soil do you plant into? Mine is heavily alkaline.

@farmboy2017 I use my loose black soil from here on the farm and amend it with composted manure and bone meal plus a low nitrogen fertilizer
