As farmers in the 1800's and until the mid 1950's, my family had great respect for the intelligence and tight-knit community behavior of crows, including their use of language...a cry of 'Human approaching' is not the same as 'human with potential weapon approaching,' in fact a fun thing to do is hover on the edge of a field they are in & pick up a stick! Apparently it is shaped like a gun to them......
