I am listening to Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. Below is a story he narrates in the book.
"when Neil Armstrong and his crew were preparing for their Apollo mission somewhere in the western USA, a tribal man came to them and asked them what they were doing. The team explained that they are trying to land on the moon. The man looked thoughtful and after a while said: "our tribe considers that our guardian spirits live on the moon. If you meet one, would you please relay our message to them?" Team agreed and asked for the message. The tribesman taught them a sentence in his native tongue and made them rehearse it to his satisfaction. Then the team asked him what it meant. He told them that only his tribes people could know the message and he wouldn't tell it to them. Afterwards the team scoured for a translator and asked him the meaning of the message. When the translator heard the message, he burst out laughing. When he stopped, he said "it means - do not believe a single word these people tell you. They will steal your land"
I've been listening to Sapiens on audio book. Very, very good.
