Putin invaded Ukraine because he claimed that NATO was encroaching on Russia.
The consequence of his invasion is that NATO actually IS encroaching on Russia.
Finland, which has an 800 mile border with Russia, will officially join NATO tomorrow, Tuesday 4th April. (The same day Trump will be charged in New York.)
