"How the hell can a person go to work in the morning
And come home in the evening and have nothing to say."
After forty-eight years together,we ran out of topics.

Maybe it's time to say it to her. But first tell her you are taking her out to her favourite restaurant.

Do you read to her every night just before sleep?
This week i am reading a science article about world building in science fiction, and how most of it is physically wrong. We are both learning lots about the inorganic carbon cycle,... Sometimes she is over in minutes, other times not. And then we review in the morning.
We are both science people, and hence observers. Got bald eagles nesting with kidletts, not a mile from our house, in the city. We go look at it. And the new Great Blue Herring rookery. Birds are her thing, but i go along for the ride.

Sounds like a John Prine song, Lily Hiatt and Aaron Tasjan do a good cover of Angel From Montgomery.

Relationships are work. Have grow together, if you don't , that's what happens .. silence.

Many go to work and every day it's the same old shit , how many times did you want to hear it or say it?
Sit down put a show or news on and talk about that.

2

Angel From Montgomery, sums it up.

Good on ya. I only made it five years. Of course, my ex is still going strong🙂

“Running out of topics” is just a metaphor for some serious underlying problem.

1

I really love that song. Bonnie Raitt or John Prine?

@Wangobango3

1

That worked wonders as the premise for Steinfeld, didn’t it? It was supposed to be a show about nothing.

2

Sad but can you both be present for the other?

3

Try going on an adventure with her new experiences always will give you something interesting to talk about

Running out of topics.... Brought me back to a great scene in "The count of Montecristo" when Richard Harris (preacher) popup in Jim Caveziel's cell and he is loosing his mind but somehow managed to tell preacher that he had been x days in captivity and had time to count each stone in the four walls twice (as in running out of topics) and then preacher response to such powerful argument was "I see but....have you name them yet??" (My take of that scene, it doesn't matter how desperate things may seem, there is always one more thing to do.... No such thing as running out of topics)

1

Do your jobs require you to talk to other people all day? Maybe your just out of words. I have heard it is a thing - running out of words.

3

Sometimes topics aren't required.
Sometimes being able to be together in silence is the proof of compatibility.
But if it has become boring, find something new to do together...
Or not, what do I know?

4

So...hold hands and watch a movie and eat popcorn. You don’t need topics.

That's a great song.
John Prine wrote some good ones.

John Prine done a duet with Bonnie Raitt,Angel From MontgomerySam Stone ( Too mention but one) was my favourite.
