Australia has the right idea.
It has some of the most comprehensive firearm laws in the world. They were enacted after 35 people were killed in 1996 by a gunman in Tasmania.
In the wake of the attack, all automatic and semi-automatic weapons were outlawed, and some 600,000 weapons were surrendered as part of a mandatory government buyback scheme.
A US woman has been arrested in Australia after a 24-carat gold-plated gun was found in her luggage.
The woman, who has not been identified, arrived in Sydney from Los Angeles and did not have a permit for the firearm, the Australian Border Force (ABF) said.
*She could face up to 10 years in jail."

Yes, we do have the right idea about high restrictions against guns.
That lady could indeed face the music. The customs people go crazy if you even bring in a wooden or plant thing. Bringing in a gun in Australia? How stupid. Where did she think she was going, Mexico?

I don't approve of buy backs but I have zero disagreement with a ban. Results following Australia's, and Sen Biden's, bans are proof of effectiveness. Sadly, Australia's will never work as proof in America because our general population sees no link for us to any other nation. American Exceptionalism denies such a link and provides the cognitive dissonance for it.
