I have always slept poorly;I don't expect it to change in this lifeπŸ™„.

My wife recently (last September) gave me a smartwatch mostly so I don't have to keep track of my phone. Any time I'm in Bluetooth range, my phone is on my wrist.

But it also comes with a bunch of toy functions. It tries to measure heart rate, blood pressure, step count and with my phone, text notifications. And it takes images and has an alarm clock, stopwatch, timer and music.

One of the things it tries to measure is sleep quality. By watching my motions and heart rate it tries to decide when I'm asleep and whether it is deep or light sleep and it keeps records of how it thinks I'm doing.

Truthfully its methodology is a little suspect but it does keep the question visible to help me pay attention to how I'm doing for sleep. It's nice to have an 'objective' rating of my sleep quality.πŸ™‚

I lean towards 9 / but it is mainly I have done physical work most jobs . I do 2nd shift
and need to keep that pattern over weekends.

I only needed 6 hours a night for many years. Now that I'm older though, 7 is ideal, but I always wake up in the middle of the night, so have 2 sleep periods. It works. If I have to go to work on 5 hours sleep, I come home exhausted.

I believe it was one of the Marx brothers (but not Karl) who remarked
"They say the average man needs 8 hours of sleep per day.
I like to be well above average, so I'll have 18."

Sleep is platinum for me, and I've been chasing it for decades. It's a great pain and stress reliever, and I credit it with allowing me to lose 100+ pounds after suffering from severe pain. Depending on the time of year 7 to 9 hours are optimal for me.

i have Always needed, literally needed, 8 or more hours, even as a young adult
