Ok I had a lot of trouble writing this because my mouse actually behaves like a mouse and wanders quickly around the page. It's hard to get control of the little rodent prick.
Both arrested for DUI, Russian Spy needed a ride home, lost $100 in the police drunk room.
When we first moved to the boonies in NH we had a long long drive to any bar but at last a bar opened in town and most Friday nights we closed the bar. The cops being what they are, waited next door at a small mall to arrest the drunks driving by.
In the bar was a guy who couldn’t even keep his head up at all asking us to give him a ride home. My husband said ok, but then I had to drive our land cruiser which was new to us and I hadn’t even driven it once yet. It was like a school bus. We closed the bar and were ushered out with the drunk who kept telling us stories about being a Russian spy. He was serious as a drunk.
So my husband drove the spy, I drove the cruiser. It had snowed a lot and the roads were crusty with hard ice.
We passed the little mall area (not in our direction home of course) and I must have wandered over the yellow line but it was invisible anyway under the snow. So this woke up the 2 cops who saw this and they followed us. We were about to take a right so I put my blinker on cuz the cops were way close to the rear of my car and I wanted to avoid them hitting me. Plus I am a sophisticated driver and when buying the vehicle made sure blinkers weren’t optional like so many cars on the road.
At the turn, now the blue lights are blinding me back there, I slid on the ice coming to rest on the left side of the road (we don’t live in England) and husband pulled way way up and stopped waiting for my potential arrest. But the two cops in the cruiser passed me and pulled behind Bruce and arrested him! They called another cop to arrest me. The two cops didn’t see Bruce do anything illegal. The newly arriving cop never saw me doing anything illegal either.
We get to the station and the drunk guy who was still talking about being a spy never was heard by the cops. Meantime husband yells from the next room, “Honey don’t say anything!!” so I concentrated on what the Russian said. When I opened my wallet a couple $50s fell out. I believe I told the cops they were missing a good story over there. My husband and I both flunked the “walk the yellow line” and were being booked. Being either forgetful or generous they allowed me to keep my license. So that meant I had to live with husband, drive everywhere with him and his boss gave me a job. There wasn’t anything for me to do so husband would walk by during my reading time and tell me to sweep the floors, “Interrupted my chapter, yo,” I said and continued to read.
We hired the 2 best lawyers in the state who competed getting people off DUIs. It was a battle; cost to us $2k and worth it. The town had no lawyers and in court the chief kept messing up (as in “YOU CANNOT SAY THAT!&rdquo😉 So I was free, then Bruce only lost his license for 3 months and was free to go the second cop was worse than the chief in court.
I again told the chief ‘you lost a good story here when you dropped the Russian spy at home. That was headline material.’ Next morning I had to look around the station for my $100 and found it folded in the middle of the room. DUH.
So both arrested, both by the wrong cops, both needed lawyers and at least one of us believed the spy.
There is a freaking emoticon in my story until I try to edit it out. Unsuccessfully.

Remind me not to move to New Hampshire

The housing market under normal circumstances would have crept my 3/1 home from 180K to about 225K and for real it's around 400k. This is due to the Free State whoever. They have driven up house prices.

"The New Hampshire Union Leader reports that the Free State Project is not a political party but a nonprofit organization."
