It's Sadfishing! crying for attention

I had a flat tire and was getting it fixed at the tire shop. As I waited, a man and his relative also came in for service. The guy seemed like he was talking to himself, and talked loudly, on and on. And on, and on, and on. After almost 50 minutes of non-stop self-dialog, he went out for a walk. WHEW! What a relief!! It was worse than Chinese water torture. I couldn't help but feel sadness and sympathy for such a pathetic character. I've seen cases like that before. In college, this one indigent spoke and argued with himself, and sometimes even flagellated himself. What should society do with such people?...

No one can be involuntarily committed in the US, unless they are a danger to themselves or others. That's a good thing, though they don't always get it right. In the past, some people were committed for unscrupulous reasons, and had no way to get out. That said, if a person is having, say, a manic episode, someone would need to intercede for there to be help. Mental health services are pretty dreadful in this country.

I had an electrician come by on many occasions and he brought a man in his 50s along. He barely helped him but repeated everything the electrician and I said every time. He must be related to him or had sympathy for him because he was super tolerant. While repeating he sometimes murmured or said it loud to repeat what we said. He tagged along wherever we went. Other than that he was docile, harmless. People have different reasons for doing what they do. We must be patient and sympathetic. I can't imagine myself in their shoes.

i don't think he can.

A continuous stream of thought and a compulsive desire to vocalise and transcribe same…a social network like ours is quite simply an irresistible vehicle for this individual. Serious Mental health issues are evident and I hope someone close to him is getting him the help he evidently needs. Personally I have just stopped responding to or even acknowledging any of his posts.

If it's the person I'm thinking of, I blocked him temporarily. I'm thinking some sort of mental health thing. 😢

Sadly so I’m afraid.

@Marionville I wish we could somehow offer help, but I'm at a loss, not knowing the situation at all.

@Organist1 I have a feeling it would not be met kindly by him if we tried to broach the subject.

@Marionville Definitely, unless things change or he recognizes what's going on and asks for our help.

No clue who it might be.

@silverotter11 Look for a series of very odd posts.

Which guy?

I don't feel comfortable sharing that publicly, but if it's who I'm thinking of, if you see a lot of rather nonsensical posts, you'll know.

@Organist1 . Thought it might be. I have to do a lot of scrolling to get to sensible posts, often leading me to think the sound of his Ag name!

I think you’ve already worked that out…
