I can't believe there are still so many people who can't or won't see what a threat the MAGA Republican party is so I'm going to spell it out. It is, quite simply, THE most imminent and extremist threat to the freedom and democracy upon which the USA was built since slavery divided us in the Civil War. MAGA Republicanism is a cancer that if allowed to spread into power will metastasize and kill its host body, America.

Conservatism is a fear and loathing of change which is why they want to un-do the progress made over the last 70 years and roll us back to the 1950s. They scored a big win by rolling back women's rights when they overturned RoevWade, criminalizing women's reproductive healthcare while they're also going after the blacks, the gays and anyone else who doesn't conform to the straight, white, Xian archetype that will eventually include atheists AND Democrats. We know this because earlier this year, a FL R proposed a bill that would have made being a D in FL disallowed. Anyone voting D would automatically be decertified. It hasn't passed yet because it would be problematic but it's out there ready to be brought up again at any time the political environment might welcome it.

Like all Rs in general they also offer no legislation to help anyone but corporations and the wealthy. The average American, you and I, will see no legislation meant to make our lives easier while they will bend over backwards to pass legislation that will put as much free money into the pockets of the wealthy as possible just as Trump did when his "tax reform" was passed in 2017 that was nothing more than a free tax giveaway to rich people. Don't believe me, go back over the last 50 years of R legislation and try to find just one example of anything meant to benefit the average American. They want to sundown Social Security and Medicare and pretty much anything designed to aid people who aren't rich. If you're not wealthy, the Rs give fuck all about you or your family. Corporate welfare and free money handouts for the wealthy are perfectly acceptable to Rs but financial aid to the poor and disadvantaged is intolerable "socialism" that must be crushed.

Ron DeSantis, A big MAGA R and the governor of the state I live in, FL, is a case in point. FL is a microcosm of what an R presidency would be like. DeSantis is running this state into the ground with his fascistic policies because he sees FL as a proof of concept for how he wants to govern the nation if he's elected president. FL is the most fascist state in the union under his "leadership" with bans on books, education and personal freedoms.

Besides all that, have you seen the lunatics that party has embraced: clowns like Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, Louis Goemert, Lindsey Graham, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, Jodi Ernst, Tommy Tuberville, George Santos, Paul Gosar, this list can go on and on and on...

Do I even have to go into Donald Trump?? That's a fucking book!

Most people here seem to be of a liberal bent so this is meant just for those who still aren't sold on what a disease MAGA Republicanism is. I also plan on referring to it as the election draws closer so I needed to get something in writing.

Lucky you, I put it here.

Spanky and Switchcraft- You two keep drinking that DNC/MSNBC Kool-Aid, but I won't waste any more breath trying to educate or persuade you to see or admit the truth about the Dems. For every Manchin or Sinema, they have dozens of other corporate Dems ready to step up and defend the status quo inequality and screw us over, while Bernie and the other handful of progressive Dems, have no power in the party, and are just there for show, to make suckers like you feel the Dems are substantially different than the Repubs on issues of power and economics, the only things that actually matter to the rich and corporate America. Not the bullshit culture war stuff and identity politics, which is all the Dems really offer the voters as a choice different than the Repubs. The white working class has figured all this out, even if you haven't, and that is why they will always be eager and open to being conned by demagogues like Trump, because they already know the Dems are not their friends, so they will always be waiting to gamble on a Trump, and since the Dems keep allowing this situation to happen, by their support of inequality, our democracy will always be in peril, as you say......

Of course, money and power are central to the Dems, they're politicians, aren't they? That's like saying water is wet. That's not the point, the point is that between the two parties one has become a threat to the very freedoms and democracy we hold dear while the other simply engages in politics as usual. The Right has become an extremist organization with policies so unpopular they're unelectable but rather than change their policies, they engage in deceit, voter suppression, gerrymandering, and any other form of cheating they can get away with. They hold crazy, paranoid, extreme views on everything and cater only to the wealthy. They offer no legislation that will help anyone who isn't rich and they appeal to the kind of people who attend insurrections and mail pipe bombs to people they disagree with. How the f**k can you not see any of this? It couldn't be more obvious if it were sitting on your face and singing showtunes. Traditional centrist Repubs aren't the problem, MAGA is the problem. If you can't see the difference between MAGA and Dems, you're braindead.

Can you see the difference or not?

Hm-mm, shall I read your OP? Do I need the way you spell the threat?

‘’

Not if you understand that voting R in the next election is cutting your own throat. Otherwise, yes.

@Sgt_Spanky OK, I read and in the second sentence change

“…democracy upon which the USA was built ….” to “…oligarchy upon which ….”

I agree with everything you said here about the Repubs, but I also have a long memory and a keen eye on politics. And I remember quite well how Trump's tax cut for the rich and corporations passed in congress with lots of bipartisanship, from lots of corporate Dems in congress, not just the obvious ones like Manchin and Sinema, so don't be so quick and easy about framing things as if the Repubs are the whole problem in our politics, and that voting blue will fix everything. Because it won't, and thinking that is simply naive, stupid, and dishonest....

The Dems have their problem children as well and none more so than the corporatists but you have to look at the big picture of what each party represents. At least the Ds are trying to preserve the freedoms and democracy the country was founded upon while the Rs are all about chaos and power for its own sake.

They have no interest in governance, they pass hundreds of laws suppressing the vote and gerrymandering as much of the country as they can because they can't win without cheating but rather than change any of their hateful policies into something people will support, they'd rather rig the election while having NO legislation to benefit anyone but the wealthy and wasting time and money on childish vengeance against the Dems for simply having done their jobs in trying to hold Trump accountable for his myriad crimes and endless corruption.

WOW! That was all ONE sentence.

it is always the lesser of two evils, though in this case the greater evil is much greater.

@Sgt_Spanky But I can tell you, as sure as the sun rises each day, that as long as the Dems in DC, and their party leadership, remain dedicated to preserving the status quo of economic inequality and serving their corporate masters, instead of the masses, our democracy and freedoms will always remain in peril, because the Dem Party agenda on economics, plays right into the hands of right wing Repub demagogues like Trump. So nothing will change for the better, long term or fundamentally, with our country on the way to fascism, as long as the Dems maintain their neoliberal economic policies.

And the Dems have no real interest in preserving whatever democracy we supposedly have left, they are fine with authoritarianism or fascism happening here, as long as it doesn't take away their wealth and elite status. Don't be naive about them..

@Sgt_Spanky, @Switchcraft Sorry, but I no longer see much difference between them, they are both interested in only serving the rich and maintaining the status quo inequality. One party prefers to maintain the charade of democracy, and use a veiled iron glove in keeping order here, and the other is fine with dropping the mask and using the iron fist openly to rule the masses. Both are totally neoliberal in their economics, and also both totally into imperialism and militarism abroad. And even on climate change and environmental policy, the Dems, at least the ones that matter and hold the power in making policy on that issue, are mostly all talk and no action, such as Biden's policies on it.

@TomMcGiverin Show me ANY political party not swayed by money? Such a thing doesn't exist so you have tyo take a broader vision when assessing the parties. The Dems, for all their imperfections, aren't out to dismantle our system of governance in favor of something more amenable to them taking and holding onto power through any means necessary like some psychotic Bond villain hellbent on ruling the world. One party is imperfect while the other is a bomb waiting to explode.

@TomMcGiverin could you please expand your views on the difference between Dems and Reps in regards to their preserving or demolishing Democracy.

@TomMcGiverin If that were the case, then the Dems, having held the majority of the power through the last couple of election cycles, would've done more damage to the economy than the efforts they've made to recover it from the disaster of the Trump years. Where is all this chicanery you seem so convinced they're out to cause? Gas prices are lower, Medicare can now negotiate with big Pharma on the price of Rx meds, employment numbers are up... where's your evidence of all this economic terrorism you think they're out to commit? Most rich people hate Dems and spend millions trying to keep them from getting elected. All "tax the rich" policies are authored bt Ds. You have to examine the facts, not theories or conjecture based on personal opinions.

With Trump bogged down in criminal lawsuits (which I hope he looses each and everyone) and DeSantis floundering in the polls I'm curious to which creep the GOP will nominate for president. I don't know enough about the other candidates to know how dangerous they might be.

Ramaswamy is probably the worst after Trump/DeSantis. Hutchinson and Christie are the most reasonable but they're still Rs and support R policies so no to them as well but at least they're not MAGA.

There's not one that i would trust to hold a dollar for me much less run the country.
