“She had to fight against developing too combative a personality or becoming altogether a misanthrope. She suddenly caught herself. "Misanthrope" is someone who dislikes everybody, not just men.
And they certainly had a word for someone who hates women: "misogynist." But the male lexicographers had somehow neglected to coin a word for the dislike of men. They were almost entirely men themselves, she thought, and had been unable to imagine a market for such a word.” ― Carl Sagan, Contact

And the word is:

misandrist
[ mis-an-dreest ]
noun
someone, especially a woman, who hates, dislikes, or mistrusts men:
Mainstream feminists are not misandrists; they seek equal rights for men and women on the basis that all genders have the ability and the right to lead self-determining lives.

Have you ever come across anyone who hates women, men, or everybody, with passion?

There is a female member on here who is blocking me for good. (I don't remember her name, and I don't care.) Almost every time I made a men's humour type post, she disapproved of it by leaving the angry face emoji. So, before she blocked me, I visited her profile page and had a quick look at her posts and comments. Surprise, surprise, it is evident that she is a man hater (misandrist) who is in guise of a feminist... unless she doesn't understand what feminism really means. Not cool.

It was a long time ago, but I came across a man who wouldn't deny that he was a misogynist. He became misogynistic as a result of many years of abuse he suffered by his wife. A man falling a victim to domestic violence may be less common, but there, you have it. His scar is so deep that he cannot like any woman. 😟

I had almost exactly the opposite experience. My mother was one of the most misanthropic people I ever met. Who extended that even to her son, and tried to raise me, in so far as she tried at all, to be as misanthropic and misogynistic as she was.

Fortunately it did not, I hope, take. Especially when with maturity, I grew to understand that it was not me alone who was singled out for reviling, or my fault. So that now I think that I find it easy to forgive people's, including women's, failings, and appreciate their goodness however limited. Which perhaps dates from the first time , when in youth, I understood that hating all of humanity, was not the normal default position for all women, as I was raised to think, and that they could in fact be quite humane.

Yes a few. Of course it has to be said that the words misanthropy, misogynist and misandrist, could be seen as just mirror images, of the modern increasingly popular usage of the word narcissism. Since excessive self regard could be seen as a form of contempt for others.

It is my experience that both misandry and misogyny actively influence most people's behavior to some degree. The biases of society have been integrated into our language, our culture and our thinking just as racial animus continues to percolate. Only a concerted disavowal of those values can begin to sweep them away.
