The situation is unique to America, doesn’t happen in any other functioning democracy in the world.

The USA has always been, is now, and will remain a functioning oligarchy until its Constitution and the constitutions of many more of its fifty states provide their voters with direct democracy, via the direct initiative, referendum and recall.
To think my grandfather was a loyal Republican 30's and 40's) when they had gravitas.
