When I talk to religious people I realize how deep the delusion runs, we will never change the wacky spooky thinking! The best we can hope for is to keep it out of education and politics as bleak as even that seems. A guitar player was telling my about his 67 Gibson J45 and how he got it. paraphrased, ... He saw this guitar in the shop and the owner who lived upstairs from the shop said that one’s mine, it’s not for sale, so the gentleman I was speaking to told him why don’t you just sleep on it and see if God tells you if I he wants me to have that guitar, if he says no I’ll buy this other one... Comes back the next day, the person in the store said he won’t come downstairs today, he’s really spooked and freaked out but he left a note that I should give you this guitar. ... the story is invarifiable and has more holes than Swiss cheese but this is the kind of thing people think is normal... why would God care if he has that Gibson? If God can do that why doesn’t he help people who are trully suffering? ... I don’t try to convince the deluded very often, it’s a waist of time, so I only do it if I might be amused... just stay away from science and politics!
I truley think that the religious right wants to hinder education. If they can get to the young people, getting and keeping them indoctrinated in religion , and down-playing the sciences, usually that child will hold on to that indoctrination. Un-fettered education is a must. What the religious right is fighting tooth and nail.
Yup... it’s a big plan to dumb down America and make us slaves.
God also cares about the outcomes of sporting events. Ironically, he doesn't seem to care much when scores of young girls in Africa (for example) are kidnapped and turned into sex slaves. Oh, wait, maybe that's just fake news. Nor does he feel the need to prevent dozens of schoolchildren in America, e.g., from being massacred by a fucking right-wing, AK toting neofuckingpseudonazi. Maybe fake news, too, huh? Just ask Alex Jones, or maybe Sean Hannity.
I once had an elderly lady as a home health patient; delightful person. Her one quirk was that she TRULY BELIEVED that Jesus was deeply involved in all parts of her life. Including her bodily functions. I respect the beliefs of others, but it was hard to keep a straight face sometimes.
I agree, it’s a delusion.
I appreciate your thoughts, and description.. Feels like I’ve come to the same conclusion, limit the damage. But I’ll add, make ‘our alternative’ as mainstream as possible, thus allowing, or in some way encouraging youth to stray from the mythological fears of the past… Having lived longer every day ..I do see healthy change, if at a snail's pace
Sad but true. Hopefully future generations may get away from this kind of thinking.
