That's because the MIC had tons of lobbyists, as well as tens of millions of $ to bribe and buy pols in DC, while the other groups in the room, of the cartoon, have nobody and no money, comparatively, lobbying for them and buying pols in DC. So no wonder that all the govt. spending goes to the MIC, and only the leftover crumbs are ever allowed to be spent on the other services. The military is always given more money than the request, while the other areas always go begging and keep getting budget cuts. All about who really owns the government in DC and who has the real power behind the govt., as in the funders of campaigns..
Yeah, the only way out that I can see is if all political campaigns were publicly financed, instead of financed primarily by the rich. However, those who were elected under the current system are not likely to change the system, because ti would be to their own disadvantage.
@snytiger6 Exactly, it's the same with term limits, neither will ever happen, because those who would have to make it happen, will never vote against their own self interest. That's why we need to throw out both major parties and vote in a third party, a worker's party or a justice party, that is actually responsive to the people, instead of just to the donor class.
@TomMcGiverin On the one hand, I don't like having just two major political parties. On the other hand, I look at countries with more than two major political parties, and they seem to have the same problems as we do, so I don't see it as a real solution, but as a way to just partially better represent the interests of the people they are supposed to represent. However, it does seem like in countries with more than two major parties where they have to dorm coalition governments, that politicians are often more loyal to their party than to their country, much like the direction republicans have taken lately.
If politicians are more loyal to their party than to their country, then I'd say coalition government with many parties is the way to go.
