Israel fires more missiles into Syria, report from the Jerusalem Post. [msn.com]
The reason I have put this here is Netanyahu/ IDF seem intent on expanding to a regional war. Israel has also warned the UN of this [timesofisrael.com] Why would Hezbollah disarm when they are constantly under threat of missile attack from Israel?
Everyone welcomes a ceasefire in Gaza but remember, the ceasefire is with Hamas not Hezbollah. Media in Australia report the release of 50 Israeli women and children but fail to mention the release of 150 Palestinian women and children, an obvious and glaring omission of the terms of the ceasefire.
It will be interesting to see if Israel continues to contact Hezbollah in Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon during the ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza. I think the continued aggression against targets in Syria confirms Netanyahu does indeed want to expand to a regional war. The reason for this is rather simple.
Winning sides don't have war criminals. If this Israel war remains in Gaza, the world at large will demand heads role for the slaughter of 13,000 civilians (current count) in collective punishment. Netanyahu knows this. But he also knows if the war is expanded the genocide in Gaza will lose significance as violence escalates and therefore, he will get away with his slaughter.
Netanyahu is a very arrogant man, out for his place in Jewish history as the creator of a greater Israel. He thinks he has god on his side and will win. I think he suffers badly from hubris and arrogance and is very wrong in his assessment of victory. He will destroy Israel if left in power.
I find it interesting that during the Ottoman Empire Palestine never became a state but remained a "territory". I think they were onto something, like they knew that Jerusalem being the cradle of civilization that it is, that allowing any group to claim ownership and Palestine achieving statehood would be dangerous, so it remained a territory owned by none. Clever.
Firstly, thank you for your thought provoking posts, however, I must demur on that geo-political analysis.
I doubt Netanyahu. apart from being a pleasant hotel in Noosa, believes in another supreme being.
And looking to broaden the size of that 'cradle of civilisation' would be another grave mistake instead of just consolidating the stolen border and populating the interior with the faithful.
The Mesopotamian woman who invented scissors one morning to cut the flat bread of life, only to design the wheel for pizza that same afternoon would also be surprised at that cradle contention.
The area has been owned so many times it's in quite the state.
Unlike Israel, he will disappear soon enough but the subsuming of the areas is as bankable as a stripper on a pole.
Netanyahu is a Zionist and a "Land of Israel", as promised them in the "Goat herder's guide to the galaxy", is their wet dream.
I agree most psycho religious nutters don't actually believe in a god, but they do believe in their doctrine aka their group. Remember, psycho's are very vain and with shit memories, history is important to them. Netanyahu wants his place in history and he knows it is a huge gamble for the state of Israel but his focus is on his place in history, so he's willing to roll the dice with Israel the wager. It will be winner take all I am afraid as Israel under Netanyahu will not negotiate against Zionist long held ambitions.
@puff Zionists were never Jews. They are from central Germanic Europe. They were never one of the so called tribes of Judaea. History states they converted to judaeism well over a thousand years ago.
It is the Zionist culture, dreams and aspirations that are the cause of the conflicts, not the true Jewish people
@vocaloldfart Totally agree
