I don't always know what I'm talking about but I do know how to describe something I want. I told clerks in several stores that it was a device to put coffee pots or hot pans on as they come off the stove so that you would not mess up your counter top because something was too hot. Several people thought and said "Duh, I don't think they make those anymore." OK. If a pan from the stove is too hot for your counter top you just ruin the counter top. Is that how it's done now?
Yesterday at a yard sale I found what I needed for $1. It is called a trivet and the one I bought is round. Some of them are also square. You learn something every day.
