Far be it from me to offer advice to the US election machine. You got yourself in this mess and you must get out of it pretty soon.

My suggestion is good in theory but may be difficult to put in practice. It is intended to solve the problem that is apparent to me i.e. there seem to be a lot of people who do not like either candidate.

Just have four candidates on the ballot paper. That way, you will get a good idea of those that want a Republican vote but HATE trump . Also it will be a direct people's vote for V. President and give a good indication of candidates for the 2028 election . Finally those who are worried about Biden's age will get a good back-up on a people's mandate.

Why does there have to be just two candidates?

You are in a position where a politician cannot help but lie to get what they want.
Trump uses this to he maximum.
Better to leave that position.

My ballot normally has at least 4 and has had at times more than 10 running for the presidency. Most states have more than 3 on every presidential ballot.

@switchcraft " it helps the voters to have to think less and more easily be deceived about issues."

This actually against Democracy!

I count at least three other candidates, it's a quick online search

@switchcraft Thanks for that information. What else is going to protect American Dmocracy???

We are monkeys. Frightened by any change that actually requires effort. Too stubborn to compromise. Too stupid to learn.

Jill Stein ran against Hillary in 2016 as a 3rd party candidate. Only succeeded in placing us in the mess we are in currently.

There are usually other candidates. They just do not get much of the mainstream media attention, and thus not much in terms of political donations for their campaign, which reduces their media time even more. Everything in the USA has devolved in to Democrat vs Republican, but there are other candidates. It helps the television media because that makes more of a soap opera, and it helps the voters to have to think less and more easily be deceived about issues. All of the attention now is focused around these two parties simply picking their candidate. Not all of the candidates.
