When you were a baby, did you like nice, green grass and manicured lawns? Or did you prefer lawns with weeds, wildflowers, and such? When did you become a fan of nice, green grass and manicured lawns? I mean, you're such a big fan of them that you spend hours a week maintaining them, as well as money. Was it your idea to have a well-manicured, green lawn? Was it your city's idea? Is it a good idea at all? I mean, it costs you money, time, and possibly anxiety and frustration. It harms Mother Nature. How does it make sense? Why does everyone else do it if it was your idea? Did everyone just have the same idea because it's such a good one? I just showed you how it's not a good idea. So where did this idea come from? Are you really, of your free will, maintaining a nice, green, grassy, manicured lawn?
Ummm, around here grass much higher than 3" is Loaded with disease-carrying ticks. Mowing is the easiest way to keep them away, the only alternative would be to use heavy-duty poisons that would sicken and kill both me and my dog...and the ground and air too.
oh, wait, I could also burn my property. (no doubt melting the siding).
You don't know much about the actual world, do ya.........
I neither water nor fertilize my lawn, just mow to keep the ticks at bay, and the front yard is wall to wall planting that needs nothing but leaf removal in the Spring.
But I do like to get out in the back and pick my blackberries and so forth without being attacked by literally dozens of ticks.
@Drank_Spear if I go for a hike I wear long pants, and repellent of course. Should I slather myself in repellent to walk out to my blackberry bushes every day?
You sure must like pesticides all over you.....
It's artistic endeavour, no logic required. The world would be a very boring place without it. Why have fashion? Haircut styles? Different architecture? No practical purpose, but wouldn't life be boring without variety and only practicality?
Not much original thought in us humans, trend followers. So start a trend and let your lawn become grass.
I can't remember coz I was a baby. As for cutting my grass I'm not into "the yard of the week" type things. I get it cut because if I let if go too long it will be super hard to cut. Currently I have a new lawnmower but a neighbor's relative cuts my grass free when he cuts hers. I also do not water my lawn.
