Yep, I'm still a recovering perfectionist.

My ex had that problem! No one can ever meet her expectations, including herself. So she winds up disappointed in everyone (and everything), including herself

That is why the church promotes perfectionism, because it tries to run a closed shop on forgiveness.

Well yeah. They (the church) want you to seek perfection. Of course perfection by their definition requires behavior(s) which go contrary to human nature. All the rules and mores about sex are a good example of this. Then when you can't live up to their unrealistic expectations, they use guilt, shame and fear to get you to cower before them and to control you... and to get you to give them lots of money.
