April 2nd I quit work. I wanted to wait it out until November and had made my boss aware of that. Somehow it all came together on the 2nd and maybe was a shock to me and my boss. For my 2 weeks notice she had contacted her boss and it was agreed to date a paper ahead to the 19th, then we both sign it and it goes in my file. This way I leave with good recommendations.

As I went to my car I found the boss out there with me. I looked at her and said "Crystal I really like you." She said she really liked me too. She reminded me that if I thought this was a wrong decision I could come back. I told her this may have seemed sudden but I was able to save a thousand bucks a month, so maybe I would be OK. She told me she doesn't know anyone that can do that as just a working person.

So now I am trying to adjust to having all my time for myself. Retiring was a good decision really. I'm soon to be 78 years old and I had to set down sometimes during inactivity in an 8 hour shift. Corporate does not like that but I was allowed to do it. They want everyone on their feet all the time. In a position now where I can live off my Social Security I suppose I'm set for the next phase of life's adventures.

Good for you! It must be a nice feeling to be able to live on just social security, and do as you please with your time. Freedom!

Smart of you to save up while you were working and collecting benefits. I hope you enjoy your new found freedom! I'm still dreaming of the day I can wake up one morning and not have to worry about work. But, I do appreciate being able to collect S.S. while still working, to get myself in a good financial position when I do throw in the towel.

I can't afford to retire--not yet. I have been part-time at my schools and have no pension. I have a nest egg and hopefully, it will be big enough for me to cut back on classes in 2025. I do not want to stop teaching altogether.

I have a bit of a nest egg. What got to me the most was that I had to leave my projects at home to go do my 2 days at work. I got so rattled that it took me 2 weeks to fix a computer problem using command prompt. So simple and took me so long to figure it out. Those that tell me I was working just to "have something to do" do not know me at all.

@DenoPenno in a nutshell, my life consists of grading, posting in discussions, and I quilt. In the summer, I work in my yard and am active outside. The only people who come to my house is my family. This is by choice. I am very friendly when I go out, but I am also reclusive.

However, when I stop teaching six classes, I will need more "stuff" to fill my time. I have thought about getting a part-time job at a fabric store, but I would be on their time and after working online for about 12 years, I don't want a fixed schedule or to get up early in the morning (7:00 AM is early for me).

I might look into volunteering, but two or three classes would cut my work in half and give me enough income so I do not have to use my savings.

The future is unkown!
