Is selling a car on a rainy Friday night a good idea? Ended up being a lucky day for me!

Only in a small community like this little island of Kauai would someone pay $200 over the agreed upon price for the sale of a used car.

Up until yesterday, I had an old Prius, almost 20 years old, with some issues, especially in the rain. It's been raining a LOT, so I felt it was time for me to upgrade to a newer car. So, after buying a slightly newer model, only 12 years old, I put an ad online to sell my old car yesterday. I was very honest about the issues it has on rainy days, but assured any new owner that it is still transportation, despite its quirks, and it surely has a few miles left in it.

I set a fair price accordingly, and I got a bite right away. A fellow wanted to buy my car "for sure" and had cash in hand. It will be used for getting workers to/from a construction site on the west side where it doesn't rain very much. The buyer wanted me to meet him at the airport as he was picking his son up at 5:30pm. I met him in the cell phone parking lot at the appointed time, followed him to the public parking lot just a few steps from baggage claim in the very small airport, where I parked the car where he indicated.

Then, without even a test drive, he counted out the money and said "I added a couple hundred extra for you." My eyes widened in surprise, "Really?" Yeah, the car looks great! His son walked over from baggage claim and joined us. His brother was coming in on a later flight and so he hid one key under the seat and (presumably) left the car unlocked. It was right there by the parking attendant shack, so quite secure. He took the other key.

The buyer called me an Uber, as promised, which arrived 7 minutes later, giving us time to sign the title over and go over some of the quirks of the car. I walked the 50 feet over to the rideshare pick up area and was home 10 minutes later. Easiest sale ever! I took down my ad, notified the other interested buyers that it's sold. Then went out to Costco for my weekly grocery run, to spend some of the hundred dollar bills. I wanted to check if they were counterfeit, but nope, they are good!

The day ended up being pretty lucky for me. First, I got an excellent medical report on a CT scan I had the day before. Then when ordering new expensive sliding doors for my condo, I got the quote back and found out they are giving me a 30% discount, a savings of $5000 over what my non-resident neighbors pay. After that, a friend knocked on my door to tell me something and I commented that she was wearing really cute pants. She volunteered that she got them that morning at Costco for $2.50 - so being that it was Friday, my Costco shopping day, of course I looked for them when I went and nabbed the very last pair.

When I'm having a lucky day, I've got to just take full advantage of it, even if it's just a $2.50 deal, haha! When I go out tonight, I'll find out if I'm still attracting lucky breaks!

So, now that it’s Monday, how was Friday evening?

All that was on Friday evening, in the rain.
I did have a very nice time dancing in town on Saturday night.

Now Sunday and Monday, weather was beautiful. I took a swim in the pool with my neighbors, then put all those hundred dollar bills in the bank, relieved again that they weren't counterfeit and took a lovely bike ride along the coast. I consider the luck to have stayed with me. 🙂

Sounds like a winning day! It’s nice to have one of those every so often.

Did you buy a Lotto ticket? Might have been the day to do it!
I never do, once went almost 3 years buying 5 random numbers a week and Not Once having even one matching number, therefore (belatedly) concluding the Universe was sending me a Clear message......

I play when the go $500k, Mega Miliom and Powerball. I was winning $2 or $4 on a regular basis!

There is no legal gambling in Hawai’i, including lottery. However, there seems to be frequent enough busts of illegal gambling in Chinatown on Oahu.
