I don`t know about "seizing power" but I'm reminded of what happened in Bulgaria after the fall of the Soviet Union. The king offered to come back from exile and run for president, to get them through the transition. He promised to relinquish all claims to the throne for him and his descendants in perpetuity and only serve one term if elected.
He was elected and did only served one term. I asked a friend from Bulgaria what he was like and this is his opinion. "Well, he was okay at 1st but then he started jetting off to Spain and played playboy with King Juan Carlos. That said he was one helluva lot better than some of the corrupt bastards we have had since".
