Yesterday my cell phone had this disturbing message that someone was charging $986 plus at Target to my Town and Country Bank account and I had to approve this or argue against it at this website they also provided in the e-mail. The word "yes" is there for me to click on and the site name seemed laughable. If you get anything like this do not fall for it. My phone is Google powered and I clicked Spam to make it go away. (A lot of times I just wish Google would go away and I limit what it is allowed to do.)
To start with, Town and Country is not my bank although it is popular in my community. My bank has a type of police system that immediately calls me if any fraud is suspected in any way. If I say it is not me the suspected fraud is swept away. Codes are in place so you know the ones calling to verify are real.
For the record, those who have read any of my posting know that I am not in favor of cell phone banking at all. I go to a page Online and sign in to my account and then see all my money on a screen. When done I sign out. None of my info is left anywhere to be stolen, nor is it stored on any device. If anyone wants to argue this method be aware that when I physically go to my bank I do not see people there with cell phone screens and frantically working away with their thumbs trying to get their work done. No, what I see is full computer screens everywhere. If my bank starts using cell phones I will find another bank.
Watch your cell phones and do not get provoked into something where you might lose all your money and even your identity.
My neighbor says this also happened to him and he got stung. The message came in on his cell phone and he clicked it "yes" to argue with them and go to a site. That was his mistake. Now his bank says they cannot do anything about his 10 year old title loan even though he was not using his current bank at the time. They are trying to stick him with these charges and tell him a lot of this is going around. he is being railroaded.
Not so long ago I was tricked into giving all my info to a site claiming to be Netflix. This lead to a lot of trouble and the scamers took me for a lot of money. My bank helped me get it back. Now my spam e-mail keeps claiming they are Netfix and wanting to get me again. Last month I totally canceled with Netflix although none of this was their fault.
