Rejecting scientific knowledge keeps one in the bronze age...

(Not much scientific knowledge is actually useful on a day-to-day basis. Tyson is fond of bombast).

He certainly is. He does bombast well.

Well, if you think of scientific literacy in terms of understanding climate changes being the result of human actions, it does make a difference in how (responsible) people behave and vote. So, I don't think it is all bombast.

@snytiger6 I support your optimism. But realistically, the undecideds that determine election outcomes don't have the acuity to grasp science or global warming (which is WHY they are undecideds). If they manage to get it right, it is more likely to be by luck on other issues rather than by scientific literacy.

@racocn8 I tend to at least hope that the undecided just don't have enough information to make their decision.

Recently it is the independents who swing the elections. In 2016, although Hillary said the right words, her demeanor did not really seem sincere, because she relied on other people's words (speech writers) rather than putting ideas and statements into her own words. So, independents didn't vote for her. In 2020, Trump lost independent support because of his lackluster response to the pandemic.

The challenge in 2024, is that neither candidate is liked all that much, and I expect turnout to be at record lows for a presidential election. I am sad to say at this point it could go either way. I hope Biden will win, and plan to vote for him. However, I, like many, are more voting against Trump more than I am voting for Biden, even if I believe Biden is the better of the two candidates.
