I'm in such a damn mess. I'm sick of where I live, and want so badly to just go somewhere new and make a fresh start. Wipe the slate clean.

Thing is to do that I need to find a job somewhere, and with my employment history that's like trying to find a haystack in a needle factory. Even with a college degree I've never had a job where I made more than $15/hour. They all want 80 years of experience, and the only thing I do have years of experience in, most of the time I still can't even get an interview. And frankly it pays so little that I wouldn't want to do it anymore anyway.

I don't have a problem with working for a living. All I want is to have a job that doesn't make me want to jump in front of a bus, where I can work a predictable schedule, and make enough money to live comfortably and maybe travel once in a while. But apparently I ask too much.

I don't know if I should go to school and get a certification in something or what I should do. My life feels like a blind man trying to compete in a stock car race.

Thank you for your replies, everyone. I was a bit frustrated when I wrote the post (as you can probably tell😉 that was because I'd been having trouble sleeping, or I get to sleep fine but then I wake up after only a few hours.

Basically what it comes down to is that I feel like I can do anything if I could just get the chance. Ideally I'd like to be in publishing, or putting together newsletters, things like that. But like I alluded to, everyone seems to want Bill Gates-level experience and I don't have that.

So sometimes I feel like I should just get a certification to be a stenographer or something and just do away with all the ambiguity. That way when I apply for a job, it would be more like, "Can you do X?" "Why, yes I can!' "Great! You start Monday."

But then I feel like I'm getting too old to risk getting into something and finding I can't stand it. I don't know. I'm getting there but it's a long road.

If you can't find a way out geographically, try to recreate or improve on what you have. Sometimes volunteering can get you into an organization and a new job. Let yourself breathe a minute and walk back from the panic. Try looking at things from a different angle. Apply for jobs you never considered before...not way out there, but, possibilities. Go back to your college and talk with them about careers. I don't think you're alone in your frustrations. Maybe start a group here for other grads struggling to find meaningful employment...lay out who you are and see if there's some networking you can do. Show yourself in a positive light. It's OK to be frustrated but remember to share your skills/education/keep your resume in mind when you post. Who knows? Maybe someone on this site even has a job for you??? There's no telling. Please return and post so we can support your process/journey. Thanks for sharing!

That is excellent advice - he has to DO something, can't continue like that. Time's a'wasting

@VLove hahaha you give off good energy VLove but, what's the rush, really? Sometimes when we're in a hole answers come overnight and sometimes, we crawl out slowly. Variety is the spice of life.

What about driving Uber or Lyft-I have a friend who left Corporate behind to do it. Be your own boss.
