What percentage of people in the world would want to join a colony in outer space if one was available? (I'm trying to settle an argument.)

Interesting question. i'm guessing there will be a very small percentage who are intelligent and the thought of exploration and overcoming barriers would appeal to them....say.....1% and there would probably be another, larger percentage who are dumb as shit and could care less about learning or exploring anything, who would think "wow man that sounds really cool, space is cool man".... lets say 30% ...and 2 seconds after being in space would want to come home.

Yes, provided that we can find solutions to all of the health issues that go hand in hand with long term exposure to micro-gravity. If the colony is on a different planet with reasonable gravity (Mars, for example) then yes, no hesitation.

Yes, all needed health issues solved. The famous Aubrey de Grey said no one would want to live in outer space. He may have specifically said no one wants to but of course no one can really reside in outer space and he knows it. He's a jerk.

I would hate it...

Famous Anti-aging scientist Aubrey de Grey thinks no one wants to live in outer space.

Not me...I'm too tired to move again.

HaHa, I'm having trouble moving to South Carolina but it's because of lack of help. :/

To what purpose? How about we fix planet Earth instead?

That seems to be the plan for now. There will probably soon be medical control of human aging. If so, and there is no existential eradication, eventually there will be earth overpopulation.

I can think of a number of Christians that I would recommend sending as missionaries.

Do you think any of them would go?

Definitely, but not enough.

I'm sure many transhumanists would go, but not many are Christians.

I'm guessing 32%. The same as Trump's approval rating.

LOL! Sounds close.

I think you'd need a much larger polling group (than you'd find here) in order to reasonably calculate that percentage. That said, I have no desire to leave the planet on which we all
currently reside.

KK....., I'm not yet close to saying yes to a terraformed or satellite colony, even if people were living there, as my risk tolerance is low.

Don't know about the percentage, but I would.

Please read my reply to MsOliver above. Aubrey de grey says you don't exist. Although I'm an immortalist, and he works in life extension, I can't stand him!
