Our state, at least the coastal side, is a very blue state. A piece by one of my two favorite journalists, Danny Westneat, caught my eye. I think most of us here would like this.

“There’s now a group less popular the Atheists” of which he freely admits to being one of us. ”Absolutely last, are Republicans. More than a third of respondents gave Republicans the coldest ranking, and ranked them below 40 degrees-a chilly winters day. Atheists ranked more than 5 degrees warmer overall. Take King County, where Republicans need to win 35% to 40% of the vote to have a shot of winning a statewide race. The highest any statewide Republican got in King County was 24%. It suggests the party is again struggling toward a shutdown in all nine statewide campaigns.” Here, the race for governor is between Bob Ferguson (my pick) a Democrat and Dave Reichert (a Republican who got only 19.7%). ”My sense, which I’ve stated it repeatedly, is that the complete takeover of the party by Donald Trump and his MAGA movement has made it toxic to the lions share of voters here. The local party should have distanced itself from him a long time ago. Instead they enthusiastically renominated him, even after he tried to overthrow the last election. That local Republicans have been so willing to destroy themselves and their up-and-coming candidates in the service of only this one man is one of the most baffling imponderable things I’ve ever witnessed. It’s so inexplicable, it almost feels…religious. Republicans, you’re now less popular than atheists! So take it from one: fixing that is going to require more than a hope and a prayer. It means dumping the false Idol.”
