This is a FaceBook post from my son, who is agnostic. I must have done something right to have had a son like him. Who says agnostics and atheists are lacking in moral compass?
"Whatever you believe is cool with me as long as you believe in something. I see the hand of God in the work I do and that’s what I believe, and it makes me a better man and a better nurse. The lessons I learn are sometimes hard...lessons in courage, perseverance, acceptance, forgiveness, humility, heartbreak and love. I am blessed to work as a nurse. I am blessed for the lifestyle it has afforded me, blessed for being continually challenged, blessed for the friends it has brought to my life who share my profession. I am proud of what we do. We are powerful healers and spiritual warriors. The wars we wage are against poverty, ignorance, complacency, illness, and death itself, which ultimately is always...ALWAYS...lost. Everyone meets the same end and we are powerless to change that. And yet we fight. We show up and continue to teach, to inspire, to heal to comfort. Sometimes we simply sit at a bedside and hold a hand and shepherd the fearful and lonely to a place of peace. We are sometimes the last face they see and the last voice they hear telling them “it’s ok, I’m here, you’re not alone”. Will they remember me? I will remember them...every...single...one. I’ve been part of their life story and I am continually told I have had an impact on their experience, on their life. What I don’t tell them is the impact they’ve had on mine. My soul is awakened and newly impassioned by each life I touch and by each life that touches me, however briefly. Thank you to all the warriors in my life. Thank you for being part of my experience.
Happy Nurses Week
Sounds like a great guy. I have doubts about his agnosticism, but it’s a trivial thing. Happy nurses week!
That sounds like religious speak - 'shepherd', the hand of 'God' and 'blessed'.
Am I misunderstanding something?
