I’ve just realised that the word ligature is derived from the same root as well.

Definition: .
a thing used for tying or binding something tightly.
"there was no sign of the ligature which strangled her"

Clearly it was well known it was a con; otherwise we wouldn't have so many versions of the same bullshit.

Sounds right! Especially since religion has been used to subjugate and demonize women, justify slavery, justify invading other other lands and in extreme case like Judaism, taking over someone else’s country.

This is exactly what religion does. It binds and shackles you.
