You know you’re living on a rural island when certain items appear in the weekly police blotter. ”Lopez deputies responded to a report of a hostile goat headbutting people on the soccer field during practice. The soccer players were able to successfully corral the goat back to its property before the deputy arrived. No goats or soccer players were injured.”
You remind me of living Kangaroo Island. We used to do a 150km round trip on dirt roads to play darts. The local rag today (I was there late 90's)

I learn something new all the time. This island is much larger than mine and even has a larger population. However, this area is a part of a larger archipelago, San Juan Island county, is a major tourist destination. There are four large islands that are accessible by ferry only. Also, this area is in a major populated area (some 8 million from both Canada and the US). The governor of the State of Washington grew up on Lopez and has become one of the better governors of the country. He often appears on this island or in the area.
I'm glad Kristi Noem doesn't live on your island.
She wouldn't last even a short while and would hate it. The county is a strongly democratic and liberal area. She would hate it here. I've noticed that geography often shapes a culture and being in a land locked, agricultural and basically closed area to outsiders makes one very conservative. Lands with open waters and dependent on multiple sources of income including trade with outsiders are often more liberal. Even big cities in red states tend to be liberal oasis'.
