Do you feel lucky?
The prosperity gospel tells its followers if they give they will receive in return. [en.wikipedia.org] Of course this is nonsense but I have seen some have more luck than others and I think there is something to this.
A woman friend had two sons. The older boy (around 14) was average looking and normal personality (whatever that means). The younger son (12) was very handsome and had a winning personality. He could get people to do things for him based on those looks and personality. His mother was worried as she realized he would have a skewed view of life because he had more things go his way than his brother. I believe body language can do more for some than others. But I think sometimes there is more at play. Anyone have any links?
My ex girlfriend went to The Ridge church in Greenfield. They have a guarantee that if you give money, it will come back to you and more. Well... she was giving 130 per month and it definitely did not come back to her. I brought this up more than once. She ignored my truthful negative comments. Of course she was to embarrassed to call them on it!
You seem to be at odds with your post when you say the Prosperity theology is rubbish and then state there may be something to it. There will be a time when the younger son will fail and have to ask his older brother how did he deal with it and ultimately succeed. It also depends on how much others do for the younger son. People like doing things for others up to a point. If he never broaches that point he's fine.
Sorry, I see my comment can be confusing. The issue was more about luck and the prosperity gospel was an example of how some think luck comes from some deity. My point was that some seem to have better 'fortune (not the money kind) than others and I am looking for ideas of what might cause that. The brothers example was one thing I observed.
Your post rambles among unrelated topics. As for the "prosperity gospel" it is simply a perversion of Christianity, saying that if you follow Christian dogma, you will be rewarded with success and wealth in this life, as well as in afterlife. Original Christian theology never claimed that. In effect, it is also saying that , no matter HOW a person acquires his or her wealth, the fact that the person has wealth shows that God approves of the person.
It is tripe designed intentionally to say, in effect, that greed is good, and to placate the greedy. It is peddled by demagogic charlatans who see it as a means of acquiring wealth and power for themselves.
Your right and I commented to SamL on this.
Confidence, a 'can do' attitude, and a willingness to seize an opportunity when it is presented is what 'luck' is all about. Physical appearance can skew things a bit when dealing with other people, but even that is not an insurmountable barrier to getting what one really wants. The biggest deterrent to doing what one wants is the randomness of life itself and ones personal limitations.
Luck, fate, and destiny do not exist anywhere but in the mind.
