Well being single is not all that bad really.....I can do what I want when I want and go where I want. Some times when I was 'WITH' someone I felt alone anyway...eg We went on a lovely holiday to Northern Spain high up in the mountains of Potes, such a beautiful place, we would drive right to the top and find a stunning little village with views to die for......but he would not get out the car to look, I would go on my own and wonder round, taking photo's while he sat in the car!!! I felt alone. Don't get me wrong I travel on my own and enjoy it but when someone is with you but not with you, it is very annoying......does that make sense to anyone?

Absolutely! I have been around people, too many people, for years, and often felt alone. Of course, I didn’t have the opportunity to create relationships with women, so.... Any man who ignores his woman is a fool.

It makes me sad/mad that someone wants to do what you do yet your 'someone' passes by what I would love to have. All a bit shit really.

It makes a LOT of sense and also it reminds me that being alone and being lonely are NOT the same thing. Good luck to you!

Makes perfect sense to me. That’s a road well travelled, by me anyway. It’s the height of loneliness. But not everyone’s like that. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway. Maybe one day, I’ll be proved right. I hope so, anyway.

Yes, it makes you wonder if the other person is really getting anything out of it.

That would have ruined the trip for me. Trips tell you a lot about a person, how organized they are (ok I admit i'm not...terribly) and how they handle obstacles and things not going smoothly.
I hated traveling with my late husband for most of our marriage. He was not fun on trips except on rare occasion. I had to flat out break it to him he needed to watch himself. To his credit he did reflect and soften his wound-up-ness after being called out, but he had to make a conscious effort to do so.

For him to have stayed in the car if he hated walking or just needed some head-emptying time alone might have been ok per se, but if it made you feel alone, which he should have sensed, then you were obviously on the down slope...
I have been leaving my clothes on the bathroom floor and the dishes in the sink for another day, and my feet on the sofa whilst watching MY tv programmes, AND the bed unmade all day for so long that I would find some sort of house-prefect walking in my life brandishing a hoover and a spray can of Pledge quite to take... A few of my female friends do exactly that when they visit, (it being, apparently, an irresistible compulsion that afflicts their gender), but I put up with it for I know that tomorrow they'll be gone. D'you know, the last one smashed a rather good grecian lamp whilst dusting the shelf on which it had sat quite undisturbed for years! In other words, I have become set in my single ways, and it would take much more than a youthful "let's see if this works out" type of relationship to drag me out of my - I admit - sometimes regretted solitude. it would have been nice to have had someone with whom to go to the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, for exemple. Alone, one can feel like a pariah at such events...

The loneliest i have Ever been is when married to the last hubby! Just an aching void all the time, and me doing quips & tricks to try to get attention. Painful at best!!!
