North Korean detainee asked to be let off plane in Alaska because he 'hadn't seen daylight for a very long time'
Kim Dong-chul, Kim Hak-song and Kim Sang-duk arrived home on Thursday from North Korean captivity
All three were being held in North Korean prisons for separate alleged crimes dating back to October 2015
They were freed 'early' in a sign of good faith as relations between the US and Kim Jong-un improve
Before arriving in Joint Base Andrews in Maryland at 2am, their plane stopped to refuel in Anchorage, Alaska
One of the men, who had been doing hard labor in North Korea, asked to get out to see the daylight
It is not clear if he was allowed by the State Department officials with them or if he was made to stay on board
Vice President Mike Pence said all three of the men are now receiving medical treatment in Washington
He added that it was one of the 'great joys of his life' to welcome them home to the US on Thursday
