There Will Be Another ...

"There will be another,
Just you wait and see."
Oftimes have I heard these words
Repeated thus to me.

They were whispered by my mother
As she sought to comfort me
Whene'er whate'er I wanted
Turned out not to be.

They were threatened by my father
As he fastened up his belt.
"And next time it will be much worse."
Such discipline he dealt!

They were uttered by my teacher
As she handed out a test
To those pupils in her classroom
Who had failed to do their best.

They were taunted by young girlfriends
As they blithely kissed my mates
To leave me sore cuckolded
By cheating on our dates.

They were spoken by commuters
As we waited for each bus
Arriving full to bursting,
So it didn't stop for us.

They were promised by employers
Each time I got a raise.
For I was a good employee,
Often singled out for praise

Then I myself spake out the words
In wise maturity.
For 'twas my turn to be the one
To wield authority.

And there will be another,
Just you wait and see.
"Oh no! There won't." Cries out my wife.
"I'm sick of poetry!"

That's great!

Hope you had a laugh at the end, also.
