I don't expect guarantees unless one counts death and taxes!
Life can become chaotic at times if one doesn't keep things under control.
Cruelty? The natural world can seem cruel but there are so many beautiful things to offset it so concentrate on the positive things.
People can also be cruel but I have found that the majority of people are most certainly not. We are social animals, most people are kind and will offer a helping hand to people when they need it.
Perhaps you need to change in some way.

Not very optimistic.

Certainly no guarantees, but surely more than just chaos and cruelty. Lots of good things in life, even when you are at your lowest. The beauty and power of nature, music, friendship ....
