You've already earned points for writing a profile and answering some of the profile questions, but if you answer more questions, and maybe flesh out your profile a bit, you'll help members get to know you better since that's the first place many people look when they see a new member.
Then you make comments and write your own posts to earn more points, and when you reach level two, you can private message people.
