I’ve had a few conversations with a fellow freethinker who himself often gets confused by the notion of belief. I repeatedly state that ‘belief’ is often a bigger word for what is just simple fantasizing. I refer to religious belief as superstition or supernaturalism. It’s a leap based on a simple wish fulfillment. It’s not far off from the way in which people assert common thoughts or opinions, saying ‘I definitely think...’ when predicting something, rather than saying ‘I imagine...’ which would be more accurate.
I feel no remorse for offending someone’s ‘belief,’ moreso, because the believer is only entertaining someone else’s original idea. It is probably the reason that all of us freethinkers stand opposed to ‘belief’: it feels uncomfortable and untrue to adopt another person’s idea, to say nothing of how propaganda works on a mind.
In any case, believers ought to be called ‘make-believers’ or ‘pretenders,’ instead. Seems more accurate.

You're just another self-righteous jerk who has to make himself feel better by putting others down. Coming here to brag about it for some pats on the back isn't noble in the pursuit of "accuracy", it's petty and shows weakness of character.

Completely out of proportion. Not at all what was said or intended.

@MJF6922 bullshit "I feel no remorse for offending someone’s ‘belief" or how about "In any case, believers ought to be called ‘make-believers’ or ‘pretenders,’ instead. Seems more accurate." You're intelligence might be above average but your character is far below.

That makes good sense to me! Some people think their beliefs are who they are...I once had that idea! But, beliefs are the way we approach our life and the world! But, my beliefs were constantly changing, depending on more information! Some people just settle for a ‘set of beliefs,’ and memorize them and when needed, just repeat them to give themselves strength or meaning! At least to me, that is what it looks like!

There are beliefs and there are dogmas. All that matters is exploring our thoughts for ourselves and finding meaningful dialogues. Beliefs should at least be organic and not bound by rules.

I wonder does a belief require believing.
I have belief fire will burn. I believe it.
I have belief humanity is on course for improvement.
I do not believe that.
.
But yeah, seems many beliefs rely on what if more than what is, based on hope.

What If rather than What Is. Well Said.
