In my experience most people are as good as dead by the time they hit 30 and are just putting in time until they are physically dead. Life becomes a series of routines that lack any sense of wonder for them. Kids keep them occupied until they leave the nest and then maybe a little spark when grandkids show up, then it's time for a dirt nap.
Not how I have lived my life but it seems to be very common.
